The Amber Valley Rugby Club

Somercoates

Just to start off a big thank you to the Shoulder of Mutton MCC for yet another great event. It was a good turn out and the entertainment was great. I should also say it was nice to see local clubs supporting a local club event: I spotted The Saxon's, Black Widows, Frogs, Jugsters, Perverts in leather and Drugsters and if I sat long enough I could probably think of even more who turned out to show support. Good on you guy's as well.

You have to feel for the hosts, Friday dinner the heavens opened and it didn't stop until late that night. With me being only 15 miles away from this rally I sat looking at the clouds and the rain bouncing off my shed roof thinking I'll make a dash for it when it let's up......It didn't. So hours of polishing went out of the window.

The pictures above just shows what rally experts we've become? Or are we just really sad? Note the right hand picture show's the cooking ain't getting any better!

The bands where very good, they performed on the back of an arctic lorry as a stage which I guess having seen many pub stages  would have been the biggest stage some of them have ever played on.

The club house was where it was at. The DJ did on the last night seem to stick too long with rave music, which did anger a few people. But hey he has to play to broad spectrum of people, not everyone can remember Rainbow, Budgie and Dio. (The fact I can is because I'm a music historian not an old fart. Believe that believe anything.)

Ian (aka satan) came down to add evil to the proceedings. Despite this frightening exterior he was a nice guy. (Do we do nice?)

Rally virgin's (above, don't they look innocent?)

The games, their was a tug of war.

A game called ???? Spin around and run like a pratt then fall over game.

And lastly throw the dirty big iron weight the furthest. (Yes I had to have a go at this. And so did son of Dread) Now the longest throw/heave was by one of the Drugsters.  I was sure I'd beat his effort and shit I dropped it, lucky for me the organisers said have another go. I did an fell just short of his distance. Damn I don't like loosing. But then a voice from the crowd said I'd beat that and out strolled a somewhat unremarkable chap, not a giant not small, not young but not old. He grabbed the weight and launched it way further than either of us. So that was that.

The bikes:- I know my bike was best in show but hey we all think that don't we (Dave). The SOMMCC made no bones about mine wasn't the best 13 there. Now okay Dave's 13 is clean, tidy and standard, but where's the imagination in that? (Got to say this so I feel better) The first batch are our club bikes.

Your bike maybe?

The guy above had fun!

We had a ride down into Matlock Bath where we met up with another owner.

The picture below typifies our Club moto SIZE DOES MATTER. (Just ask the girls)
