Dreads 13 mk2

The picture above is my Zed as it looked when I bought it. It wasn't a rat but nothing special apart from being a Z13.

I quickly re-sprayed it as we where going to a NCC bash in Wales. It looked better but still not special. I polished the casing as well as you can with a duster and autosol, it always drew a crowd but it wasn't quite right yet. I was dumb enough to take the bike onto the track and had a spill smashing my engine on the way. In fact I smashed the engine, fairing, indicators, crash bar, tail piece etc.. you get the picture.

If you can't replace it don't race it.

So I started again and here's the 3rd guise of my awesome 13. I do want to reiterate that nearly all the work on my bike is done in a shed with the minimum of tools. And help from my best mate Dave. Cheers dave.

I saw a V Max with with a window in the clutch and decided I'd follow suit, this was done by Metmachex in Derbyshire.

It makes the bike look very trick and always draws a lot of attention. I've also removed the rear mudguard and built an under tray to protect the electrics. I moved the indicators back to be level with the number plate.

I think the whole bike looks cleaner and longer with the space between the wheel and seat being free from clutter.

But I get bored easily and decided whilst theres nothing wrong with the bike it needed an overhaul. So I started again in 2006. Here we go...

1st the motor was rebuilt, I added a Wiseco 1405cc big bore and had the head reworked again. Painted the engine up and kept my fingers crossed that there would be no leaks.

Next I need a paint job that was fitting for such a monster. The bike had been modelled to be a 80's streetfighter so I needed a paint job from the era. So I decided to go with metal flake. Not just any old metal flake but holographic.

I also added ghosted flames and many coats of paint in fact 30 odd layers. Notice the Hagon shocks and belly pan of a ZJR1200. The belly ban had to be widened to fit around the huge engine.

The question is will it all stop here? Don't be silly of course not. Watch this space.
