Wide Wheels

Okay firstly the rims are ground of the original Z1300 wheels leaving the spoke, then wider rims welded on. Simple.

Front.

Rear.

The pictures above show the wheels once it's done however please note I have had the rims polished. The front is 120 and the rear 180. You can go wider but then you have a few issues I didn't want to have.

Then next step was to mask off my wheels and spray them. Note I had cleaned then down to make sure that the wheels had no grease on them, then I gave several coats of smooth rite black (About 7). I let this dry between coats so I didn't get any runs.

Next I fitted new bearings and had the tyres fitted. Michelin Pilot Road 2's. Front 120/70/18 and the rear 180/55/17 below is a picture of the 180 on top of my old 140. (I know a 13 should only have a 130 but I bent the rules.

I then had to fit the wheels...Not as straight forward as you'd think. Because the rims are so wide you have to remove the brake callipers on the front and fit them when the wheel is in place. The back was more tricky as the disk and calliper need to be remover and then fitted as the wheel went in. I forgot to mention I had to grind the weld off the inside of the swing are to make room for the wider tyre. Also because my shocks are bigger than standard I had to find a shim to step out the shock as the rear tyre rubbed at first. The rear wheel is 10mm off set but you can hardly notice this.

But as you can see it was worth the effort.

Handling wise it's a different bike with vastly improved cornering. The offset barely noticeable.

Dread.
