Rock and Blues 2002 was mega, the weather was HOT and I mean hot. I found the coolest place was lying underneath my 13 in the shade of it's huge engine. The event was back to it's good old root's in Pentrich, which is a much better venue than the fragmented Donnington.
The music, now those of you who have read previous reviews know that I'm a tough cookie when it comes to the bands. Well Friday saw a great cover band 90% proof, they where followed by The Blockheads. These guy's where very good, but not quite my cup of tea. Earlier in the day Girlschool where on but hey the shade of my 13 and a cold can was more inviting. I am loathed to mention the headlining band. They where £rap when I first saw them and the second time and they where consistent for the third. The Levellers don't do it for me, they are not for me or the many others who headed for the trance tent or back to there own tent's as they attempted to entertain us. Apart from them the whole event was mega and one naff band couldn't spoil it.
Saturday saw Blaze take to the stage, Blaze formally of Wolfsbane and then for Iron Maiden was very good. The set was pro and his band very tight, he worked the crowd well leaving the next band a hard act to follow. Rose Tattoo followed (little guy big voice) We had a wander but the crowd seemed well impressed but hey I'm a thirty something and obviously showing it. Then about 11.30 the main band of the weekend came on:-Doro. She is a German stunner who was adorned in very tight latex trouser and wailed song after song at the mesmerized crowd. She was good but said "HEY, HEY, HEY to many times for my liking. But HEY what do I know?
The whole music side was a big step up from previous years and the guy's who organised the bands should take a bow, well done fellas keep it up.
I don't know what you guy's think but I've noticed over the last few years artwork has had a revival. Here is some of the top paint jobs I spotted.
The show bikes. (Forgive the naff pictures, the sun was so bright it cast a strange colour on all the pictures.)
The winners.
The best of show went to Mr Clarke again. I wish I had this guy's money, last year he won with tribal vision and this year with extreme vision. Well done bro'.
Thirteens I spotted, and I'm surprised at how many there where.
I spotted this nice trike "Hardley Davidson" check the wheels.
To summarise the weather was great, the bands good, the show the best it's ever been and your bikes in the fields where awesome. Many of your bikes deserved trophies in my eyes. See you all next year.
